The Ultraman World Championships

Event Date:
11/23/2012 - 11/25/2012

The Ultraman World Championships is a 3-day, 320-mile (515-kilometer) individual ultra-endurance event which takes place on the Big Island of Hawaii. Entry is limited to 40 participants and is by invitation only. Founded in 1983, the event is held annually on the traditional Thanksgiving weekend.

As I get ready to head out to Kona with my family we make our routine stop to see Mike at Babylon Bike in order to get my bike tuned up before the big race.
Thanks Mike for always taking care of me, making sure the bike portion will be as successful as possible.

Sammie/water crew and Elise and Chad Foster from Indiana/land crew
We are all looking forward to getting out there on the course this year and having a great race.....

Thank you Elise, Chad and Sammie for wanting to take this adventure on again together as a team (Claire, thanks for letting me borrow your mom and dad for the weekend).

Amy's One Step Ahead Foundation

The One Step Ahead Foundation was started on the principle that participation in athletics provides opportunities for children to grow and learn through hard work, teamwork and dealing with losses. Some things learned through sports can help children with physical disabilities build self-esteem and self-confidence.
The not-for-profit organization dedicated to giving children with physical disabilities positive experiences through sports to build confidence, courage, and friendship, increase self-esteem, and create a better sense of self-worth all while giving them a positive experience they will use throughout the rest of their lives. This foundation will especially focus on children with limb loss and provide them with the means to participate in various athletics.

Life's greatest accomplishments are captured together as a team.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. -Winston Churchill

In life we set goals, we strive to be the best we can, to always make a difference and although it doesn't always turn out the way we want, we have the ability to learn from it.
I have spent the last 18 years of my life helping others see what is possible if you never give up, if you have the courage to dig a little deeper and push past the inner doubt. Last July I had to drop out of the Badwater 135 Ultra marathon, it was one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make.

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race -Calvin Coolidge

After waiting 6 anxious months to apply, The 2011 Badwater Ultramarathon race field has been selected and I am so happy to hear I will have a spot on the starting line this year. Thank you to the Adventure CORPS board members. I will take all that I have learned as a newcomer to the ultra racing scene and do what it takes to get to the finish line.

Keep checking back for updates on our training, nutrition and technology.
